Learn C2PA in plain language

Four plain-language modules before you apply. Built for people who have never heard of C2PA.

  • 1. What is C2PA, simply?
  • 2. Manifest = ingredients label
  • 3. Verify = check the seal
  • 4. Who applies for a certificate?

1. What is C2PA, simply?

C2PA

International standard for content provenance—an ID card inside the file.

Provenance record

Who made it, whether AI was used, whether it was edited later.

This site

Inspect records and apply for signing certificates.

1. Think of a digital source sticker

2. Why a certificate?

3. Never send your private key

2. Manifest = ingredients label

Manifest

The provenance record that travels with the file—like a food label.

Copy

The record can travel when you copy the file.

Tamper

Alter the bytes and verification fails. Audits care about this evidence.

Glossary: C2PA=standard name · manifest=record inside the file · CA=issuer · Trust List=global roster of trusted CAs (XenLook not listed yet).

3. Verify = check the seal

Verify

Home check looks for a record, a matching signature, and unchanged bytes.

Result

Greener usually means intact; red means missing or broken.

Pilot

Some tools may show untrusted before Trust List listing—that is expected.

4. Who applies for a certificate?

Who

Not the same as uploading a photo to inspect. Teams that sign products apply here.

How

Korea/Japan pilot—submit, human RA review, then maybe issue. Not instant.

When

Planned production: Korea Mar 2027 · Japan Jun 2027.
